An application submitted by Hourigan Planning last year was refused by Dorset Council. At the time, our Member of Parliament the Right Hon Michael Tomlinson MP submitted a strong objection to the development saying:
I have raised the issues of the Green Belt in Dorset with the Council on several occasions, including during the previous consultation on the Local Plan. In my submission at the time, I raised concerns about the impact on local identity, infrastructure, wildlife and wellbeing. The Green Belt is designed to protect these important things and as a result I maintain my ongoing support for our Green Belt.
Specifically, I raised concerns about the Green Belt between Wimborne and Colehill. This remaining area of green open space is treasured by local residents and wildlife. Any further loss of this space for development is highly damaging and should not happen. A core principle of the Green Belt is the protection of individual communities from urban sprawl. This application would further diminish the remaining separation between Colehill and Wimborne. They are beautiful but distinct communities and the Green Belt provides an important gap between them.
I have had many concerns raised about the wildlife within this area which should not be dismissed lightly. Wimborne had seen a considerable amount of development already and development of this scale is not sustainable without sufficient improvements to infrastructure, which simply has not or cannot be adequately addressed by further development of this site. Specifically, I have concerns about the road access and increased pressure on transport, schools and health services.
We are disappointed to see an almost identical application recently submitted by Nightingale Land. In our opinion, nothing has changed and this application should again be refused.
